The Royal Wedding

I am sure you are all aware that the media is all in a frenzy about the upcoming marriage of Prince William and Kate. I too am enjoying reading an occasional magazine article about the happy couple. Can you imagine the pressure their wedding director must be feeling? AH!

My mom called me this morning very alarmed. It seems that the "Today Show" has been misinformed about William and Kate's wedding plans. Apparently they have two weddings confused... William and Kate are getting married this Spring (this part of the information is correct), however the Today Show hosts have repeatedly announced to the public that the "Royal Wedding" is happening this spring.

Don't they know our date is September 3rd??

Rain, Rain Go Away!

Portland weather is officially terrible. The radio said that it has rained 31 out of the past 33 days and I completely agree. Although it doesn't rain all day of every day, the wet stuff does make its appearance at some point of every day. Torrential downpours, slow but giant splashes, steady pitter patter, constant mist, we've got it all. The weather has turned my hair into a frizzly, frazzled, curly fluffy flop, and my skin is now a pasty white. I am hopeful that this is all reversible once the sun makes its appearance this summer. (oh if it EVER gets here!)

Due to the massive over watering, constant drizzle, and lack of sun, the grass out here has turned into a giant marshy mess mixed with little bits of clay and dog poopy. That's right... I said poopy. Our apartment complex provides doggie bags for dog owners, however we have noticed that people tend to think that rainy weather negates the need to use them. Eisley doesn't care... she thinks that the rain gives her yet another reason to lick the ground.

This past weekend Ross and I ran the Shamrock Run in downtown Portland, and guess what, it rained! It wasn't all bad though... we ran the 8k race (4.96 miles) despite the fact that I haven't ran more than 2 miles in months... and when I do make it to the gym my exercising is very inconsistent to say the least. HOWEVER... we survived! Of course Mr. Athlete did fine, and as we were approaching the finish line he said "Hey, I think I could have done the 15k." I responded with "I think I am going to barf." We may not have had the fastest time in the world, but I was proud that I finished, and we shaved one minute per mile off of my normal running pace! Ross pushed me on through the race with cheers of "Yay Pudd! Go Team Boos!" and I struggled to make it up the hill.

32,000 runners were down at the Portland Waterfront Sunday morning ready to run in the rain and enjoy the after party. Free beer from Widmer Brewery and smoked salmon chowder from a local restaurant was an excellent post-run treat, but trust me.... after running 5 miles, in the cold cold rain... creamy, seafood mush and a beer is the LAST thing you want at 9am!

In all seriousness... it wasn't THAT bad. It was a great experience and I am really glad I did it (and even more glad Ross was there to hold my hand and make me do it). So what's next? How about a 10k in April?

Wedding planning and all that jazz

Remember that time I entered that crazy photography giveaway, and Ross & I became finalists, and everyone had to vote for us, and the contest got almost 2,000 votes in less than 3 days?

Well, we didn't win. But hey, no one likes a sore loser.

A big thank you to all of our family and friends who voted... and a special BIG thank you to those of you who re-posted the link, voted a crazy high number of times, and left witty comments with every posting. Thanks to one avid voter, my fiance is now known to the blogging world as "Rossers!" (Cheers to you Michael McSwain!)

So we didn't win... but we did get third place! (cough cough... out of third)

Anyway... this contest was a huge eye opener for me. I woke up Monday morning and was all in a panic about the voting. I stressed for 24 hours straight about it. Then I realized I was being ridiculous (not sure if I realized that on my own or if Ross hinted at it first). I had an epiphony that "hey- this whole wedding planning thing is supposed to be a happy time, not a stressful time!" So, I have decided to do something I have never done in my life... relax and be calm! (INSERT GASPS OF SURPRISE HERE)

We have checked many of the "biggies" off of our list, and now its time for the little fun details. Thankfully I have my crafty Nana running around making custom center pieces in the middle of every craft store in NC... and getting every other shopper and store employee's opinion on them!

(These aren't the ones Nana made.... I just thought these were pretty neat)

We have picked out a venue, photographer, officiant, caterer, DJ, and DRESS! WOO HOO! Now I just need to tell all of those people/things that I picked them. I think that's my to-do list for the weekend! Wait... can I have to-do lists when I am relaxing and being calm?

(I'm not sure what the monkey has to do with anything... I just liked him)
